Otro año más, he hecho un viaje por Semana Santa, esta vez a la maravillosa Colombia. Debo reconocer que esperaba un país destrozado y caótico, y sin embargo lo que encontré me encantó. Visité Bogotá, el eje cafetero (zona de Pereira) y Cartagena de Indias, cada uno de esos sitios totalmente diferente al anterior, pero todos ellos con encanto.
Voy a confesar también mi inclinación en este viaje a experimentar con la cámara, lo que ha provocado que la mayor parte de mis fotos estén movidas, desenfocadas o sin color, con lo que no estoy en general nada contenta con ellas, aunque he podido rescatar unas pocas que son las que os dejo aquí para quien quiera echar un vistazo. Al menos ahora sé utilizar mi cámara un poco mejor.

One more time, I have travelled during the Easter holidays, this time to the wonderful country of Colombia. I must recognise I expected a chaotic and not too beautiful place, interesting to know but nothing else. However, I loved what I saw, and was positively surprised by it. The places I visited included Bogotá, the cofee area near Pereira and Cartagena, home of Gabriel García Márquez. Each of those were completely different from each other, all of them unique and charm.
Also, I will confess my inclination during this trip to mesa around with my camera settings and ISO, which ended up leaving my pictures without color or unfocused. I am of course not happy with the results, but I managed to rescue some of the pics which I will show in this post. At least now I know how to use my camera a little better.

PALMERAS DE CERA / WAX PALM TREES

Estas palmeras son las más altas del mundo, y se llaman así debido a la cera que protege sus troncos de la humedad de la selva. Sólo se dan en esta zona del mundo, que tiene unas condiciones únicas, pero ahora, debido a la tendencia de la gente local a arrancarles las hojas para las procesiones de Semana Santa, sólo quedan aquellas que tienen más años, a las que les queda poco tiempo. No hay palmeras jóvenes que puedan repoblar la zona, de manera que si no se hace algo al respecto, esta especie excepcional podría desaparecer.

These palm trees are the highest in the whole world, and their name comes from the wax that covers their trunk to protect them from the humidity of the jungle. They only grow in this part of the world, which has unique conditions, but now, due to the local people's tendency to tear their leaves down for the Easter celebrations, only the oldest ones are left, those which won´t last too much. There are not young palm trees to restock the place, therefore if nothing is done to help out, this special tupe of palm tree could disappear.
